AJ Hawkins “The Reclamation” Project
On view as part of the gallery’s rotating Special Collection series. March 14th - April 7th, 2019
The Reclamation project is a science-based exploration of human post-mortem decay and the nutrient cycle. It draws influence from forensic and mortuary sciences, Victorian-era macabre and high fashion. Based in Port Townsend, WA, AJ is a member of the Death Positive movement and The Order of the Good Death, seeking to open up the dialogue around mortality. Each piece is handmade (including the frames), totaling thousands of hours of work.
