Disembodying Women: A series of meticulous watercolor and gouache paintings and textile patterns by JoEllen Wang, contemplating gender norms, domesticity, medicine, and the politics surrounding the female body. This latest work reflects the artists' personal experiences - struggling with the perception of pregnancy as a process to be managed, fighting a loss of self to the perception of ‘mother’ as an ecosystem, and attempting to embrace creativity within the confines of domestic life.

JoEllen Wang is a visual artist based in Seattle, WA. She is interested in structures – physical, constructed objects that represent home or shelter, and the sociopolitical systems that define what we know as truth.
