Erika Wurm is a mixed media artist/illustrator that lives with her Alaskan hubby and polar bear dog, Lula in Port Townsend, WA. She is influenced mostly from her childhood, watching the Muppets, time spent in the garden with her grandpa and those old stop animation movies that always played on TV during Christmas. Erika was a creative kid since day one, drawing and creating/sewing characters together from the old towels her grandma would give her. Realizing that she wanted to take all this inspiration to the next level she decided to leave her small town in the Midwest to go to the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, CA to study traditional illustration at a time when digital art was booming. It is important to Erika that she use as much repurposed materials as possible. You can see the influence of Jim Henson, the old stop motion movies, with her use of fabric, wire and embroidery giving her work a 3D effect. Her favorite place to find materials for her work are her craft closet full of unusual treasures, free piles and local thrift shops. Erika hopes her art makes people smile, young and old. She wants to leave this earth a more positive place by inspiring and educating with her quirky sense of humor.
