Danielle’s work is strongly influenced by 19th century natural history practices and travel photography. Her work explores what it looks like when our constructed human world overlaps with the natural world and looks at ways we try to categorize, collect and contain untamable forces. Her new resin sculpture series “Progress and Loss” uses ships as a double-edged symbol of human progress at the intersection of conquest and conservation. The water flooding this work becomes evocative of the heightening anxieties and feelings of desperation around climate change as both human and natural environments are lost.
