From Madrid, Spain, Carmen Cano has been living and working in the U.S. since 1997. Her studies in Madrid combined both fine and graphic arts, and she was an early pioneer in the use of computers in graphic design. She has exhibited in a number of Madrid and Seattle galleries, and was awarded 2nd prize in the Biennial of Young Artists in the Mediterranean (Bolougne, France). Marrying an American and moving to Seattle, since coming to the United States she has explored new creative techniques of all kinds.

The “Illuminated Universe Tarot” explores the concept of transformation from a symbiotic point of view, blending vegetation, creatures, humans and symbols to create a very distinctive cosmogony. It seeks to re-imagine the classic symbols of the tarot. Inspired by nature, mythology and ancient manuscripts, the images induce meditation. They are cryptic and, at the same time, leave open a path to the way out always based on the viewers’ interpretation.
